| Media Seminar gives us confidence |

A second Media Education Seminar for 2008 was held at Don Bosco House of Prayer, Kola Ridge, Honiara from 11th to 13th April, 2008. 28 participants from St. Vincent’s youth, YFC youth leaders joined the participants from St. Joseph’s, Tenaru, Bishop Epalle, Rove, St. John’s, Rove and Don Bosco, Henderson. The participants were given a basic understanding of a newsletter. A field trip to Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, Rove gave the participants an insight into the effort and work done by the staff at the Radio station.
“The seminar was filled with enjoyable educational activities. The Anatomy of a Newspaper and the 5Ws and 1H gave us writing interesting ideas on writing our school and parish newsletters”, said Chris Olivera. “The Media Seminar has given each of us participants a lot of confidence”, said Job Mauli, student at St. John’s School, Rove. “The seminar has empowered the students and given them basic skills in article writing. They now need to use this information to disseminate accurate information through the media”, said Mr. Peter Ha’alau, deputy principal at Don Bosco, Henderson, who accompanied the students. “Meeting new friends, sharing my feelings and experiences during the discussions, delicious meals and the a wonderful atmosphere of working together, is what I will treasure”, said Anna Kaeni, Form Four, St. Joseph’s, Tenaru students. The group now looks forward to visual media, which will be dealt with in the next seminar.
